Summary of Public Involvement Opportunities during Phase 1 of the EIS (Scoping)

Scoping Meetings

As one of the initial steps in the EIS process, the FAA conducted an Agency Scoping Meeting and Public Scoping Meeting on February 27, 2007 at the Hilton Palm Beach Airport. The following material was available at the Scoping Meetings:

 Scoping Meetings Handout

 Scoping Meeting Presentation Boards

The purpose of the Scoping Meetings was to present an overview of the Scoping and EIS processes, to describe the proposed projects under FAA consideration, and to obtain input from agencies and the public regarding the issues to be examined in the EIS.

The Scoping comment period was from January 26, 2007 (when the Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS and hold Scoping Meetings was published in the Federal Register) through March 27, 2007. The FAA summarized and cataloged all comments received during this period and considered them in the finalization of the EIS Phase 2 Scope of Work.  All original and summarized comments are contained in the Scoping Period Comment Database, which is an Appendix to the DEIS.

Although the Scoping comment period has closed, the FAA continues to accept comments and gather information throughout the EIS process. Any information received by the FAA that it believes is critical to the environmental analyses will be included in the EIS.
